Parks and Playgrounds

The team behind Aston Hills are passionate about creating beautiful outdoor spaces that invite exploration and connection with nature. Our masterplan enhances the natural beauty of the Adelaide Hills, supporting an active and healthy lifestyle for people of all ages.

With a network of trails, linear parks, reserves, and a shared path leading into the Mount Barker town centre, Aston Hills offers seamless access to the outdoors. We hope everyone enjoys these spaces as much as we enjoyed designing them.

Central Lakes Precinct

Our award-winning Central Lakes Precinct, winner of the UDIA (SA) Award for Environmental Excellence in 2021, is a vibrant hub at the heart of Aston Hills. Located just across the road from the Aston Hills Shopping Centre, this picturesque precinct is now home to the popular Wok the Duck Thai fusion restaurant.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Wok the Duck offers a unique and exciting menu that combines Thai flavours with modern twists, making it a favourite for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed morning coffee or a flavoursome evening meal, this community hotspot delivers in style.

Explore the Central Lakes Precinct and experience its beautiful surroundings, exceptional dining, and a true sense of connection in the Aston Hills community.

We’re proud that Aston Hills was recognised with the prestigious UDIA (SA) Award for Environmental Excellence for our Central Reserve and Lakes Precinct in 2021.

Lanser Director Shaun Bowden shares, “Good design is fundamental to everything we do, ensuring that we leave behind a lasting legacy for South Australia and our residents. We are proud to have incorporated these lakes with sustainable water management solutions into the Aston Hills community.”

The precinct features a dual wetland system that improves water quality with litter traps, inlet ponds, and vegetated macrophyte zones. The system provides flood protection during storms and stores water during low flows.

This recognition highlights our dedication to sustainability and the long-term health of the Aston Hills ecosystem.

Aston Hills has some wonderful huge parks and gardens that are well designed, and many wonderful trees - both gums and deciduous. And as we are going into winter the liquid ambers are changing colour intro a glorious red. This would be a wonderful place to start a new life for a young family, or retirees who want to smell the roses and to chill out. It's just so peaceful.

The Range Reserve

Nestled between Hampstead Circuit and Oakland Avenue, The Range Reserve in Aston Hills is a standout destination within the Mount Barker residential development. Not only is it a key part of our expansive open space network, connecting homes via walking trails to the Summit Sports Park, Laratinga Wetlands, and Mount Barker’s town centre, but it’s also home to Australia’s first Ka’Yop Tree playground!

The playground features a Ka’Yop Dynamic Tree, designed to engage older children with a variety of physically challenging activities. Alongside it, the playspace also includes a colour-matching Kanopé Swingset, a Falling Star group Springer, and an Inclusive Embankment Slide, ensuring enjoyment for younger children as well.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, the choice of the Ka’Yop Tree has led to the planting of 25 native trees in Australia. Each Ka’Yop tree installation also contributes to Carbon Positive Australia, supporting tree planting and native vegetation projects to combat climate change and restore biodiversity.

Range Reserve is a place where nature, play, and environmental responsibility come together, creating an active, inclusive space for all to enjoy.

The Pinnacle Playground

Located in our Pinnacle Precinct, between Lucie Close and Seymour Drive, the Pinnacle Playground is a community favourite for picnics, parties, and playdates. With breathtaking views of Mount Barker Summit, it’s also home to what locals fondly call the “Seat With a View”—a popular gathering spot, especially for watching New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Conveniently positioned near an entrance to the Mountain Bike Park, the playground features slides, swings, climbing equipment, and shaded seating, making it a perfect destination for families to relax and play.

Laratinga Wetlands

Although the Laratinga Wetlands aren't part of our Aston Hills’ masterplan, this local gem is linked to Aston Hills by a 1.7km shared-use trail. It’s the perfect spot for meeting friends, walking the dog, or enjoying a peaceful run. Children love birdwatching here, with a chance to spot native wildlife in their natural habitat.

Named after the Peramangk term for Mount Barker Creek, “Flooding Land Creek” (Lartingga-parri), the wetlands were created in 1999 by the Mount Barker District Council to filter and reuse treated water, supporting local irrigation and parklands. Over the years, thoughtful landscaping with indigenous plants has transformed this space into a thriving ecosystem, attracting migrating birds and even the iconic Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo.

Whether you’re seeking tranquillity or adventure, Laratinga Wetlands is a cherished retreat just a short walk or ride from Aston Hills.
